The goal of the Green Data Hub is to develop solutions that enable collaboration between European markets and across domains in European Data Spaces for Sustainability<\/strong>\u00a0to fight climate change with data.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You are essential for the solution to the transition towards a more sustainable data-driven future. Your commitment to using data to change the world into a better one and to counteract climate catastrophe efficiently is necessary.<\/em><\/p>\n

European Data Spaces for Sustainability<\/h2>\n

On February 16th, 2023, the Green Data Hub’s Workshop Conference set the course for the enabling international and cross-domain collaboration in European Data Spaces for Sustainability. Top-class experts from business, public administration, research, climate protection and international data ecosystem initiatives discussed, why data is part of the solution we need to achieve the climate goals, how collaboration in a data service ecosystem can contribute to environmental protection, and which key issues need to be tackled most urgently.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, three interactive breakout sessions with technical, legal and business experts were held. Data Spaces implementers from the audience discussed the current challenges they face in their practice when collaborating internationally. Thereby, in the course of the Green Data Hub project “International Green Data Spaces (InGDS)”, solution approaches can be developed on a technical, legal, and economical level in the form of implementation-focused building blocks, for the benefit of the entire European data community.<\/p>\n

The Green Data Hub workshop conference was about bringing people together, who are interested in actively participating in the European Data Spaces for Sustainability.\u00a0Lisbeth\u00a0<\/span>Mosnik pointed out that the BMK strongly believes in the data service ecosystems as the foundation for digitization in Austria, in Europe and the world. For this vision, t<\/span><\/span>here are still many challenges to face. To fight climate change with data, the basis is reliable data that can be exchanged between data users, data providers & data processors. For this to happen, it is necessary to establish trust between stakeholders and awareness of the way data is handled in a secure, trustworthy and sovereign way. Data Spaces, like those enabled by the Green Data Hub, facilitate the data sharing cross-domain and also use the international data to contribute to climate goals. To achieve this common perspective, BMK relies heavily on the strong expertise and network of the Data Intelligence Initiative (DIO) and funds the Green Data Hub with the R&D service “International Green Data Spaces (InGDS)”.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

G\u00fcnther\u00a0<\/span>Tschabuschnig<\/span>, president of the Data Intelligence Initiative (DIO), opened his\u00a0<\/span>speech with a warm welcome:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI am impressed by the huge amount of people who joined us today\u201d<\/span>. Over\u00a0<\/span>80<\/span>\u00a0participants<\/span>\u00a0all over Austria\u00a0<\/span>and abroad,\u00a0<\/span>neighbors across Europe,<\/span>\u00a0joined the online workshop conference<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

DIO and the Green Data Hub share the vision of working towards a more sustainable data service economy.\u00a0Together, DIO and GDH, have<\/span>\u00a0over\u00a0<\/span>300\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>takeholders in Austr<\/span>i<\/span>a,\u00a0<\/span>like\u00a0<\/span>data providers,\u00a0<\/span>data consumers and technical\u00a0<\/span>service<\/span>\u00a0providers<\/span>\u00a0to enforce the data service ecosystem<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The volume of data generated grows from year to year, but often isn’t used for relevant decisions. To get a feeling for the amount of data we are confronted with on a daily basis, G\u00fcnther Tschabuschnig illustrates the volume of data produced: 463 EB\/per day.\u00a0<\/span>The general potential of the data service economy in Europe has a worth of 8 bn. \u20ac.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>At the moment\u00a0only 6%<\/strong>\u00a0of this potential is being used in Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are just at the beginning<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Data is a new re<\/span>source<\/span>. When we compare to other valuable resources like gold<\/span>, we<\/span>\u00a0see that we use them differently than\u00a0<\/span>data. When we share\u00a0<\/span>gold<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>both partners get\u00a0<\/span>half of\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>, when we share data<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0we double it.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Data by itself is just numbers: 0-1. To gain insights, we have to connect it to various information variables,\u00a0<\/span>so that we can\u00a0<\/span>create business value. To set up an efficient data service economy we need experts, technicians, and engineers.\u00a0<\/span>Data Governance usually needs a heap of resources. A decentralized data service economy through Data Spaces, can generate quick wins and business value for stakeholders.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At DIO, we design, create and enable Data Spaces for stakeholders. We enforce use cases and empower companies to create use cases as a measure against climate change.\u00a0<\/span>DIO also enables working groups with various experts to take on certain topics, like legal issues, open data, blockchain, secure resilient & trustworthy AI, data governance, data protection etc. During the event, DIO discusses upcoming issues and European-wide changes\/challenges concerning national and international Data Spaces, as well as partners engagement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
