The Data Intelligence Offensive (DIO)<\/strong> and the EU Horizon 2020 project TRUSTS<\/strong> Trusted Secure Data Sharing Space (TRUSTS) hereby cordially invite you to the two hands-on online workshops.<\/p>\n

WORKSHOP 1: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (IPR) IN DATA SHARING (10:00 – 11:30)<\/h3>\n

Today’s economy is significantly shaped by data: no production, trade or service process can do without the exchange of data. In most cases, however, the data exchanged is rather necessary for the flow of the exchange process itself – such as orders, reconciliations, payment information, etc. Thus, data tends to be a process enabler or even a product enabler. But only in a few cases is the data itself the product and the object of the exchange.<\/p>\n

With increasing digitization, however, data itself is becoming the product. And this necessarily brings the question of the rights of disposal over this data (Intellectual Property Rights, IPR) into focus: Who owns the data? To the owner of the sensor (owner of a production machine or a car, etc.) or to the manufacturer of the sensor (as is currently the case with sensors in vehicles)? Who is allowed to use the data, how, and for how long? How can this data be exchanged? Is a manufacturer allowed to use the usage data to improve the machines (predictive maintanace)? And if so, under what conditions? How can data be treated and used as a product in the future? What is needed for a future use of data as a product?<\/p>\n

DIO and the EU project TRUSTS will discuss these questions with you in the online workshop, followed by a brainstorming session in working groups on individual topics.<\/p>\n

    WORKSHOP 2: DATA STEWARDSHIP AND COMMERCIALIZATION OF DATA (14:00 – 15:30)<\/h3>\n

    Data has become increasingly important over the last few years for industry, commerce and the service sector, also as a product. Data can be a tradable product that can be bought and sold. In any trade, there is a contract (see IPR) and a price. In order to determine the value of data and then subsequently preserve it, it must be adequately documented, managed in a traceable manner, and archived. To this end, there are several (inter)national initiatives dealing with the value determination and data trading of data, defining rules and formalizing procedures. In this context, a functional role in dealing with data and data management has emerged: the “(Business) Data Steward”.<\/p>\n

    In this context, a data steward has an oversight or data governance role within an organization and is responsible for ensuring the quality and appropriateness of the organization’s data assets (including the metadata for those data assets). The overall goal of a data steward is to improve data quality. This online workshop will focus on this role of the (Business) Data Steward and their role in creating value from data and commercialization. Aspects of data collection, data curation, data sharing and trading will be considered. The key question is how a (Business) Data Steward can help to get value creation from data as a product.<\/p>\n
